Post Operative Rehabilitation

Post Op Rehabilitation

After surgery, knowing what to do, what to avoid and when to progress can feel overwhelming. At KineX Physio and Wellness, we help you navigate recovery with a personalized rehabilitation plan guided by your procedure, your surgeon’s instructions and your goals.

Whether you’re working toward walking comfortably, managing stairs or returning to work and exercise, we support you with practical steps at each stage.

What Is Post Operative Rehabilitation?

Post-operative rehabilitation uses physiotherapy to help restore movement, strength and everyday function after surgery.

Your care begins with understanding your procedure, current abilities and any movement or weight-bearing restrictions. Treatment progresses as healing allows, with regular reviews to keep your plan appropriate to your recovery.

Procedures We Can Support

Depending on your needs and our clinical scope, we can support rehabilitation following:

  • Hip and knee replacements.

  • ACL reconstruction and meniscus procedures.

  • Rotator cuff and other tendon repairs.

  • Other orthopaedic surgeries where physiotherapy is recommended.

What Your Care May Include

Early recovery: Guidance on safe movement, managing discomfort and swelling, gentle exercises and using prescribed walking aids.

Rebuilding function: Progressive mobility, strengthening and balance exercises, alongside practice with tasks such as getting out of a chair or climbing stairs.

Returning to activity: Exercises tailored to the demands of your work, recreation or sport, within any remaining surgical restrictions.

We’ll also provide a manageable home program and explain how to progress safely between appointments.

What Your Rehabilitation May Include
Your plan progresses according to your procedure, healing precautions and response to care.
  • Early recovery Care may focus on managing discomfort and swelling, moving within permitted limits, gently activating muscles and using walking aids correctly when needed.
  • Rebuilding movement and strength As healing allows, we progress exercises to improve mobility, strength and balance. We also help you practise everyday tasks, such as getting out of a chair or climbing stairs.
  • Returning to your routine Later rehabilitation may include exercises that prepare you for work, lifting, recreation or sport. Progression is guided by your function and any restrictions that remain.
A tailored home program gives you clear steps to follow between appointments.

Understanding Your Progress

Recovery looks different for each person and each procedure. We set realistic goals, review changes in your movement and function, and adjust your plan along the way. With your consent, we can communicate with your surgical team when clarification or coordination is needed.

When Should I Start Physiotherapy?

Follow your surgeon’s guidance. Some procedures allow rehabilitation to begin soon after surgery, while others require a period of protection before certain movements or exercises are introduced. Contact us with your discharge instructions if you’re unsure about booking your first visit.
